Guillod, who was named the Region III Tournament MVP, went 2-for-5 with 4 RBI in Sunday's win over Niagara CCC to help the Vikings capture the regional crown. In the four games in the tournament, he batted .388, with two doubles, one triple, two home runs and 11 runs batted in.

Week 29: May 5th

Matt McGovern

Hometown: Ottawa, Ontario

 

McGovern, a sophomore, was named Most Valuable Player of the Region III, Division II baseball tournament as MCC won its fourth straight regional title. McGovern pitched a complete game six-hitter in the deciding 2-1 victory over Mercyhurst NE. He struck out 10, walked one, and allowed one unearned run. McGovern was also 7-for-10 at the plate for the tournament.

On the week, Lindsey went 4-0 and giving up no earned runs in 22 innings for the Hawks. She threw perfect game against Cobleskill and shut out Hudson Valley CC and Finger Lakes CC. The only run scored against her was an unearned run by Broome CC. Heiser also struck out 33 over that span. At the plate she had 11 hits in 25 at bats (.440).

In six games, Rich went 9-for-20 (.450 average) with 10 runs batted in. He had three doubles, one triple and one home run during the week as Hudson Valley took 4 of 6 games. In two games on Sunday vs. Broome, he went 6-for-7 with six runs batted in as the Vikings swept a doubleheader from the Hornets. Guillod leads the team in hitting (.471 batting average), hits (40), triples (4) and RBIs (31).

Cary, a freshman, tossed two no-hitters to help the Tribunes go 10-0 last week. She struck out six while no-hitting Erie CC on April 25, then allowed no hits and struck out five against Mohawk Valley CC on April 26. Including two other hitless relief appearances last week, Cary ended up throwing 15 innings, allowing no hits, and striking out 15.

Sean led the Vikings with 19 points (9 goals and 10 assists) this week as HVCC extended its winning streak to 7 games with a perfect 4-0 mark. O’Connell recorded four goals and two assists in HVCC’s 15-3 win over Mohawk Valley on Tuesday and registered three goals and three assists in a 15-4 win over Jefferson on Saturday. He leads the team with 29 goals, 16 assists and points.

Niki Rieman

Rieman tossed a no-hitter Thursday against Finger Lakes to highlight a strong week in the circle. She opened the week by shutting out Corning 4-0, allowing just four hits while striking out five. In the no-hitter, she struck out seven in five innings, and then threw three no-hit innings in relief in game two to earn her third win of the week. Against Mohawk Valley, she struck out five in five innings giving up two hits and one run.

Andrew won the season-opening Mohawk Valley CC Invitational, firing a three-over par 74 in blustery weather conditions.  Forker bested the field by four strokes. He followed that performance with a strong fourth place showing at the Broome CC Invitational Saturday.

Amanda received her first Collegiate win against Mercyhurst NE this past week. In 3 games, totaling in 14 innings on the mound she allowed only 12 hits, 6 earned runs, struck out 8, while only walking 2. Giving her and ERA of 3.00 for the week. Amanda also hit .727 (8 for 11) in 4 games, including 2 doubles and 4 RBI's.

On Monday, Justin scored 7 goals and added 4 assists in a win over SUNY Cobleskill. On Saturday, the Generals defeated Monroe CC as Hayes scored 4 goals and added 5 assists. With these two games past us Justin now has 45 points on the year in 5 games. He is a 3.57 GPA student, a member of Phi Theta Kappa and a captain for Herkimer CCC. His all go-no quit attitude is what makes him one of the most explosive players in the country.

Anna Bogdanets

Bogdanets won all three individual races that she competed in during the week. She captured the 800-meter (2:35) and the 1,500 meter (5:14) dash in a dual meet with Finger Lakes on Wednesday. Anna also won the 10,000 meter run (38:52.17) at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational on Sunday.

Matt scored 5 goals and 3 assists in a key 12-5 victory over SUNY Delhi. He dominated the game from start to finish. He then scored 3 goals in a 8-6 win over Jefferson CC on Saturday including the eventual game winning goal with 12:22 left to play in the game. So he scored a total of 14 goals and 5 assists during this week in 3 wins for the Hornets.

Zellefrow hit .500 (7-for-14) in the Saints four games this past week. She also scored six runs while driving in six more. Ashlyn hit three doubles in 14 at-bats and had a slugging percentage of .714. She also added four stolen bases on the week. The Saints won 3-of-the-4 games they played this week.

Burns was named the Most-Valuable-Player of the 2008 NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament leading #4 seeded SUNY Cobleskill to the title by averaging 11.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while connecting on 12-of-28 shots from the field, 42.1 %, including 6-of-11 from three-point range, 54.6%, and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. The 6'1" senior scored 17 points versus Hudson Valley in the team's 86-79 semifinal victory on Saturday and 16 in the team's 77-75 victory over Herkimer on Sunday in the Championship Game.

Hometown: Manheim, PA

 

Longenecker was 3-2 at the NJCAA National Championships and earned a 5th place finish at 133 lbs. He is the 27th All-American at Alfred State College in wrestling history.

Brittany Hilliard

Hometown: Washington, D.C.

 

Hilliard, a freshman guard, averaged 21 points and 6.3 rebounds in three MCC victories last week. She had nine of her game-high 30 in overtime in a win over Canada's National Elite development Academy. She then had 21 in a win over Genesee and 12 in a victory over Niagara CCC. For the season Hilliard averages 20.5 points per game.

Omoregie won three events as Alfred State won the Region Championship on Sunday. He won the long jump (6.05 m), the 55 m hurdles (7.7), and the high jump (1.83 m). In regional competition last weekend, Omoregie also brought home the regional pentathlon title. The Championship was the Pioneers 2nd in a row.

Erika scored 20 points collected 15 rebounds and had 3 steals agianst Fulton-Montgomery CC in the Vikings first game this week. In their second game against SUNY Delhi she had 17 points , 15 rebounds and 4 assits. She currently has a streak ofeight straight double-doubles.

Hometown: Rotterdam, NY

 

Ryan led the men’s bowling team to an overall record this week of 31-3.  Gahan averaged an astounding 232.5 through all 20 games bowled. Ryan led the Hawks to a victory at the Westchester Blue & Orange tournament on Saturday, where he won the all events title. He also partnered with sophomore Brett Cunningham to win doubles titles at the Westchester Blue & Orange and Schenectady Invitational. Ryan’s high game for the week was 279.

In two victories this week Brittany Williams combined for 48 points, 22 rebounds, 10 assists and 6 steals. In a victory over previously undefeated and # 1 ranked Broome, Brittany had 23 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal. On Saturday against Jefferson, she had 25 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals.

Orsini, a sophomore forward, had five goals as the MCC hockey team won twice last week. Orsini had two goals in a 5-2 win over Niagara JV on Friday. He then added a hat trick in an 11-0 win over Broome CC on Saturday. For the season, Orsini leads the Tribunes (14-3-1) with 18 goals and 28 points.

Perrial Pearson

Hometown: Monessen, PA

 

Pearson recorded doubles-doubles in all four of the Saints games this week. Pearson averaged 25.8 points per game and also averaged 13.8 rebounds per game. She shot 61 percent on the week, making 42-of-68 shots. She also had 14 blocks on the week to go along with 14 steals leading the Saints to a 3-1 record. In the win vs Pennsylvania Tech, Pearson had 28 points, 21 rebounds, eight steals, and six blocks.

Blackburn averaged 18.3 pts, 6.4 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals in three games this week, all victories for the Kats. Ray is leading the Western New York Conference in scoring average, assists, steals, and 3-point shooting percentage.

Sarah won 4 events at the SUNY Delhi Invitational on January 26, 2008. She swam on the winning 400 Medley Relay team and won the 400 Individual Medley, the 100 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle.

Shane led Onondaga to two wins last week. At Corning on Thursday, he recorded 12 points and 8 rebounds. On Saturday against Broome, he had 20 points and 18 rebounds; in the process he became Onondaga's all-time career rebounding leader.

Amy Hurd, a sophomore, won the 1-meter, and 3-meter diving events at the Erie CC Invitational over the weekend. She scored 198.80 points off the 1-meter board and 215.15 off the 3-meter. Hurd has won both events at three of four meets this year and is the reigning regional and district champion in the 3-meter.

In two games against conference opponents, Onondaga CC and Tompkins Cortland CC,this week for the Spartans Tiffany scored 56 points pulled down 16 rebounds had 5 assists and 5 steals. She accomplished the task while shooting 23-37, a 62% field goal percentage.

Tyrell Riley

Hometown: Elma, NY

 

Tyrell wrestles at 165 pounds and took 1st place at the Cleveland State Open in Cleveland, OH winning all four of his matches. It was his third straight championship in open events. All four of his matches were against NCAA Division I wrestlers. Prior to this event Niagara CCC had never had a place winner at this tournament. Riley's record this season is 31 - 5 overall with a junior college record of 16 - 0.

Smith recorded double-doubles in each of the Lady Pioneers contests this week. She had 18 points and 26 rebounds versus Finger Lakes CC and then had 22 points and 18 rebounds versus Orange CCC. She is averaging 14.5 boards thus far in 12 games for the Lady Pioneers. She has also registered 9 double-doubles.

Hemingway had a terrific week for the undefeated Hudson Valley CC Vikings. On Tuesday Hemingway had a team high 27 points and 17 rebounds at SUNY Delhi as HVCC defeated the Broncos 86-74. Hemingway followed that game up with a 24 point 12 rebound effort on Saturday against North Country. Hudson Valley won that game by a score of 97-85. On the season Hemingway is averaging 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Vikings who are currently 14-0 and ranked #1 in the country in the latest NJCAA Division 3 poll.

In Cayuga's only game this week Tiffany Collinsworth continued her fantastic play by scoring 33 points on 15-23 shooting from the field 65%. She also had 12 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist. Cayuga CC beat SUNY Delhi 68-55, Tiffany has scored 100 points in the team's last 4 games in the past two weeks.

Justin Gallo had a terrific week for the Vikings as he led his team to a 3-0 week. Gallo started off the week on Tuesday in a Mountain Valley contest against defending Region 3 champion Fulton Montgomery leading HVCC in scoring with 29 points. He also collected 8 rebounds and had 3 assists in a 114-104 victory. Justin followed that victory with a 19 point 5 rebound effort in a 89-75 win over rival SUNY Cobleskill on Friday. Gallo capped off a stellar week on Sunday by scoring 27 points grabbing 9 rebounds and handing out 4 assists in a 113-76 victory Gallo is leading the Vikings in scoring at 21.7 ppg and is also collecting 6 rpg for 12-0 Hudson Valley CC.

Brittany Hilliard

Hometown: Washington D.C.

 

Hilliard, a 6-0 freshman guard, averaged 30.5 points as the Tribunes went 1-1 at the Seminole CC Tournament over the weekend. Hilliard scored 31 points and had five rebounds and three steals in an 83-77 overtime win against Broward CC. She then had 30 points and 10 rebounds in a 91-65 loss to top-ranked Gulf Coast CC. For the season she is averaging a team-high 18.4 points per game.

Rachel posted a double-double against Onondaga CC scoring 21 points and grabbing 17 rebounds in the contest. She also added 2 blocks and went 5 for 8 from the free throw line.

Hometown: Troy, NY

 

Emanuel led Hudson Valley CC to a 3-0 week. On Tuesday in a battle of unbeatens, Emanuel had a terrific game in a 113-97 victory at Herkimer CCC; he finished with 29 points, 12 assists and 6 boards. On Thursday, Mayben tied a school record with 13 assists. Emanuel capped off the week with a triple double in the Vikings 91-68 victory at Finger Lakes scoring 17 points with 11 assists and 11 rebounds. Mayben has helped lead the team to a 7-0 start and is averaging 17 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds.

Aimee Kellicutt

Hometown: Whitney Point, NY

 

Aimee averaged 18.5 points per game with 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.5 steals in a pair of wins for the Hornets this week. She was instrumental in a win over 3rd ranked Mohawk Valley. Aimee was 12-14 in the second half from the free throw line. She turned the ball over just once in the 36 minutes she played.

Hometown: Cleveland, OH

 

Moore, averaged 23.5 points and 3.5 assists per game for the Tribunes last weekend. The preseason All-American had 21 points, five 3-pointers, in a 101-88 win over SUNY Delhi Friday in the opener of the Pete Pavia Tournament. He then added six 3's and 26 points in a 103-99 loss to Notre Dame Prep in the title game. He was named to the All-Tournament team and is averaging 18.5 points per game this season.

Week 10: November 5th

Chris Noel

Hometown: Harlem, NY

 

Chris led Jefferson to two wins at the Delhi tournament. In the first game he scored 26 points, dished out 10 assists and recorded 4 steals in a 97-91 victory of SUNY Delhi. In the Championship game Chris scored 44 points, had 3 assists and 6 steals in an 86-83 double overtime win over Corning CC.

Hometown: Livonia, NY

 

Victoria scored four goals as the MCC women's soccer team captured the District G championship. Begy had two goals and an assist, all in the second half, as the Tribunes defeated County College of Morris 4-0 in the semifinals and then added both goals as MCC topped CC of Rhode Island 2-0 in the finals to advance to the Division I national tournament.

Week 9: October 29th

Tim made 14 saves and was named tournament MVP as Monroe CC topped Bryant & Stratton 1-0 in the Region III, Division I championship game.  Knight's last save came on a direct kick with 10 seconds remaining to clinch Monroe's second straight regional title.  The Tribunes are 12-2-2.

Hometown: Liverpool, NY

 

Pete led the Generals defense to 2 shutouts in three regional play-off games.  For his outstanding defensive play he was named the MVP of the Region III Final Four in addition to being named 1st Team All Region.  "Pete is the General of our defense.  He is great at organizing our backs and midfielders," said coach Pepe Aragon.

Renee led Broome CC to 4 victories in their 5 matches this past week.  She tallied 35 blocks total across 15 games giving her a 2.3 average of blocks per game.  She also hit 0.224 over the 5 matches and contributed 7 aces.  She was key to all four of the Hornet's wins this past week.

Heather Lieberman

Heather was a strong force for the Cougars all week. She started by leading the team in Thursday's victory over Alfred state that decided 1st place overall in the WNYAC conference. Her play continued on Saturday at the conference championships. She ended the week with 33 kills, 38 digs, 2 aces and 3 blocks.

Septh caught seven passes for 127 yards and two scores in Alfred States 27-6 victory over Berean Institute. He caught touchdown passes of 31 and 32 yards and has now recorded 100-yard receiving games in five of the team's seven games.

Danielle continued to lead the TC3 attack, scoring all three goals this week as the Panthers went 2-0. She now has 23 goals and five assists in 15 games, a new TC3 single-season record for goals and points. She has four hat tricks this season and has scored at least one goal in 12 games.

Coke, a sophomore forward, had four goals and an assist as Monroe CC won twice last week. He had a goal against Jamestown CC then added three goals and an assist against Medaille JV. Coke leads the ninth-ranked Tribunes with 14 goals and 32 points.

Courtney had 3 goals and 2 assists on the week for 8 points as Delhi won critical matches over Clinton (4-1) Columbia Greene (6-0) and Finger Lakes (4-1). Hoyt became the schools all time leader in goals, assists and points during this stretch.

Chris won the Bruce Bridgman Cross Country Invitational on Friday at Finger Lakes CC. He covered the 5 mile course in 28:18, 8 seconds ahead of his teammate. Mason led the SUNY Delhi Men's team to a team score of 19 points to easily win the team title.

Jerome helped the Lady Pioneers to an 8-0 week including a 7-0 record in winning the Onondaga CC Tournament. Jerome was named MVP of the tournament. For the week she registered 69 kills, .462 hitting efficiency, 32 digs, and 12 blocks.

Emerllahu, a freshman forward, scored four goals and handed out an assist in a 12-0 win over Erie CC last week. He also played well in a 7-1 win over the Community College of Rhode Island and has helped the Tribunes jump out to a 6-1 record. Emerllahu has five goals and one assist on the season.

Brenna had six goals and an assist in a 2-0-1 week for the Hudson Valley CC women's soccer team. She had an assist in Hudson valley's 3-2 win over SUNY Delhi; scored two goals in a 2-2 tie with Finger Lakes CC; and netted four goals in a 5-0 win over Genesee CC.

Corey was SUNY Cobleskill's keeper in two road shutout victories this week.  On Monday, he had 5 saves in a 1-0 win over SUNY Delhi.  He followed that performance with 5 saves in another 1-0 win at Hudson Valley CC on Wednesday.

Smith scored 10 goals and added 4 assists this week in with over Alfred State, Erie CC, Cayuga CC, and Corning CC.  She has helped Finger Lakes remain undefeated for the year posting four shutouts in their first six games.

Steven is one of SUNY Cobleskill's center backs who helped the team to a pair wins this week. On Tuesday, Steven scored an amazing game winning goal against Herkimer CCC and then helped limit Herkimer's chances for the rest of the game. The Tiger's then shut out win over Clinton CC with Steven's help in the back.

Jennifer does a great job controlling the center of the field for the Generals. This week she picked up 5 goals and 5 assists against Region III competitors SUNY Cobleskill, Hudson Valley CC and Clinton CC.

Male Athlete of the Week

 

Johann Craan

Soccer

Herkimer County Community College

Hometown: Queens Village, NY

 

Johann helped the Herkimer CCC men's soccer team to two shutout victories to claim the Coliseum Soccer Club Classic hosted by Herkimer 9/1 and 9/2. He was named the defensive MVP for the tournament. He also had the game winning assist for the second game.

Brenna Mereness

Soccer

Hudson Valley Community College

Hometown: Castleton, NY

 

Mereness had four goals and an assist in two wins for Hudson Valley's women's soccer team. She had three goals in a 5-0 win over Clinton and a goal and an assist in a win over Corning.
